Australian store suffers cyber attack

Australian bookstore chain, Dymocks, fell victim to a massive cyber attack that resulted in the compromise of Dymocks customer records that may now be leaking all over the dark web!

According to reports, customers were sent an email by Dymocks asking them to be “vigilant” after a successful cyber attack on their company, asking their customers to change their passwords and keep an eye on their bank accounts. The stolen data included customer names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, purchase histories, and in some cases, credit card information. The data breach represented a significant threat to the privacy and security of Dymocks' customers, every one of them is now potentially at risk of identity theft, fraud, or other forms of cybercrime. 

In response to the incident, Dymocks issued a public statement acknowledging the data breach and apologising to customers for any inconvenience or harm that may have been caused: 

"On 6 September 2023, Dymocks became aware that an unauthorised party may have access to (sic) some of our customer records," the company said in a statement to the public. "As soon as we became aware of the incident, we, together with our cybersecurity advisers, launched an investigation to assess what happened. We will continue to undertake a thorough investigation of the incident by the applicable laws. We will continue to keep you informed because we take the security of your personal information seriously and we are committed to being open and transparent."

For affected Dymocks customers, the incident serves as a warning to remain vigilant and take steps to protect their personal information. This includes being wary of phishing scams and monitoring credit card statements for suspicious activity.
